Anders Newbury

After completing his law degree at Vermont Law & Graduate School, Anders began a clerkship with Chief Justice Mike McGrath of the Montana Supreme Court, where he was retained for two additional terms.  Anders subsequently took a number of appeals to the Montana Supreme Court as an Appellate Defender and worked on a number of public interest environmental cases with Montana’s premier water law firm, Ferguson & Coppes. Anders has also defended the rights of tenants, refugees, and the unhoused, in addition to authoring published articles on constitutional issues.

Anders is fascinated by how the law brings humanity’s highest ideals into contact with the day-to-day realities of imperfect people living together in an imperfect world. He believes that the law is a tool to, ultimately, make that world a little fairer and kinder to all, regardless of status or power.

When not at work, Anders enjoys exploring hard-to-reach places while backpacking, backcountry skiing, whitewater kayaking, fly fishing, hunting, and otherwise getting lost with his dog in the Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex.
